Gaining Local Experience by designing & drafting real-life Australian Projects from the Beginning to the End based on AS/NZS using Structural Toolkit, SpaceGASS, AutoCAD & LearnPedia Excel Sheets. On completion of this training program, participants will have designed and drafted three real-life projects, from the Beginning to the End, considering the construction challenges.

Free Access to Software Packages & the relevant AS/NZS Codes while enrolled. Receive a Certification of Competency upon completion, determining that the participants are suitably qualified and skilled with sufficient knowledge and exposure in designing residential dwellings. Our certification includes CPD points and a Digital Badge.

Modules Overview
Module 1: Construction Knowledge of the Australian Residential Industry
- Common materials and commercial construction products (such as Mitek, Posistrut, etc.) used in the residential industry in Australia.
- Terminology/language and technical phrases used in construction.
- Australian construction techniques.
- Learning about structural members used in timber and brick framing (i.e. timber stud wall and brick veneer wall).
- Learning about different footing systems used in Australia.
- How to read architectural drawings drawn based on Australian drafting standards
- We use drawings from real-life projects in order to have a thorough understanding of the architectural design, therefore being able to start the structural design.
- How to read structural drawings drawn based on Australian drafting standards
- We used drawings from real-life projects in order to have a thorough understanding of the structural drawings drafted based on Australian standards.
- Learning about required structural members in Australian residential houses.
- Learning about the Australian standards used in residential designs (AS/NZS codes).
Module 2: Roof Design and Drafting based on Australian Standards (AS/NZS)
- Loading for roof elements based on AS1170
- Analysis of roof elements (i.e. rafters). using Structural Toolkit and SpaceGASS
- Designing roof elements (i.e. rafters) based on AS1720 & AS1684 using Structural Toolkit and manual computations, then comparing the results.
- Drafting roof plan using AutoCAD.
Module 3: Framing Design and Drafting based on Australian Standards (AS/NZS)
- Loading for framing elements based on AS1170
- Analysis of timber lintels, timber beams, timber columns, steel lintels, steel beams, and steel columns using Structural Toolkit and learn how to analyse and model structural elements using SpaceGASS.
- Designing timber lintels, timber beams, timber columns, steel lintels, steel beams, and steel columns using Structural Toolkit based on AS1720, AS1684, and AS4100.
- Drafting framing plan using AutoCAD.
Module 4: Drafting Framing Connection Details based on Australian Standards (AS/NZS)
- Learning about the standard connections between structural elements in residential timber framing based on Australian codes and standards (i.e. AS1684) in order to deliver a buildable and practical design and detailing.
- Detailing timber connections (timber beam to timber post, timber beam to timber beam, etc.) based on Australian codes and standards such as AS1720, AS1684, etc.
- Detailing steel connections (steel beam to steel column) based on AS4100.
- Detailing combined connections (timber beam to steel column) based on AS4100, AS1720, etc.
- Drafting connection details using AutoCAD.
Module 5: Bracing Design and Detailing based on Australian Standards (AS/NZS)
- Calculating wind load acting on timber structure/framing based on AS1170.2, AS4055.
- Learning about detailing and bracing capacity of different bracing techniques based on AS1684 and implementing the code's requirements in order to provide adequate bracing for a residential timber frame dwelling.
- Drafting bracing plan and bracing details using AutoCAD.
Module 6: Footing Design and Detailing based on Australian Standards
- Learning about different footing systems used in residential projects in Australia based on AS2870 and discussing the code requirements for each system.
- Learning the terminology used in AS2870 and geotechnical reports in order to design a footing based on Australian Standards.
- Learning how to read Geotechnical Reports (using real-life reports) and how to extract all necessary factors such as reactivity, controlled fill, uncontrolled fill, etc., that are needed to start footing design.
- Designing footing systems (stiffened raft slab, waffle slab, timber subfloor & strip footings) based on AS2870.
- Drafting footing plan and details using AutoCAD.
Requirements
- Minimum second year of Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- IELTS 6.0 score overall with no less than 6.0 in each skill, or equivalent if applicable
- Abide by the LearnPedia Student Code of Conduct, including maintaining professional standards and at the host company
