Do you know how a timber residential building is built?
Do you know about the common construction methods, materials and products used in the timber residential projects?

If NOT, then HOW can you provide a Buildable Design?!

I see this over and over again when working with less experienced structural engineers and architects in the residential field. They overlook the BUILDABILITY of their designs.

And when that happens, what’s the consequence?

The construction team struggles. They have to constantly reach out to the architect or structural engineer, requesting amendments to account for construction challenges and practical methods that should have been considered from the start.

Let me give you a real example.

A less experienced structural engineer once specified a long steel beam as part of an extension to an existing residential building. On paper? It worked. The calculations checked out, and it met AS/NZS standards.

But was it actually installable in that specific location?

No, it wasn’t.

Now, there were alternative solutions available, but because the structural engineer and the architect lacked construction knowledge, they didn’t consider them. The result?

The construction team had to pause the project, contact the structural engineer & the architect, and wait for further advice. This back and forth delayed the project, adding frustration and extra costs that could have been avoided if the buildability of the design had been considered upfront.

And this brings me to a question I ask all the time:

HOW can you provide a Buildable Design if you Don’t Know HOW a Building Is Going to be Built?!

To bridge this gap, join this Construction Site Visit to gain valuable hands-on construction knowledge that you can apply directly to your architectural and structural designs.

When you design with Buildability in mind, you don’t just make life easier for the construction team, you deliver higher quality designs and higher client satisfaction.

3-Month Traineeship Program - Structural Engineer
"I secured my first job as a structural engineer by the time I completed my training program with LearnPedia. I obviously didn't have any local experience and it was impossible to get any job interviews with no local experience. Especially having no knowledge of the Australian design codes and no practical experience with the software packaged. Trying to get a job was very difficult. The 3 Months Traineeship Program at LearnPedia helped me because they gave me three real-life projects to work on, from start to finish, and they became my design portfolio. We had weekly Q&A sessions on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm, and because it was after hours, everyone could attend, and Moly would check the projects that we were working on in the training program and provide us with feedback. In my job applications and interviews, I got to showcase my portfolio of real-life structural design projects based on AS/NZS." "I wasn't sure if the program would be right for me because I was working full-time. But I could manage it because I had 24/7 access to the program for 6 months to watch the training videos before or after work. I had access to the software packages such as Structural Toolkit, SpaceGASS and AutoCAD and the codes to practice with them. So it was very easily manageable."
"Don't waste your time, go for it" "I waited a while to come across it, so don't be me. Just go for it"

3-Month Traineeship Program - Structural Engineer
"After joining the traineeship program, my hopes of getting hired shifted from absolutely hopeless to very optimistic. Previously, I applied for numerous jobs without success due to gaps in technical knowledge, experience, and resume/interview skills. This program built my confidence and provided outstanding, comprehensive content on designing timber residential buildings. The three real-life projects helped me build an Australian portfolio, which was critical in overcoming my lack of local experience and familiarity with software like Structural Toolkit and SpaceGASS, as well as Australian Standards and Codes. Unlike other internships, this training program offers extensive one-on-one guidance and years of field experience in a structured, step-by-step format. Moly’s detailed explanations make it easy to follow, even for those without previous timber construction experience, like me." "Stop wasting time, start today, and you won't regret it. The sooner you start, the sooner you will get hired just like me!"

3-Month Traineeship Program - Structural Engineer
"The content was very good, organised and well explained. I specifically like the way in which Moly tries to explain the reason behind various aspects rather than just following code provisions. This has helped me to put some strain in my brain and think of the probable reasons. She is very friendly, enjoys teaching and has a lot of patience to re-explain topics which are confusing. For a person like me who has newly migrated to Australia and is new to timber construction, this course would help a lot. I enjoyed a lot participating in this course."

3-Month Traineeship Program - Structural Engineer

"The experience and knowledge gained from this course were above all expectations. The course was well structured and detailed. The steps created to design a single storey were clear and reinforced throughout the course.  The most impressive part of the course was the ability of the trainer to tie together the construction and design knowledge. She was able to provide insightful details about common designing mistakes that inexperienced engineers can make because of the lack of knowledge about common construction materials and architectural limitations."

Meet the Site-Visit Presenter,
Moly Ashtari
Senior Structural Engineer

CPEng, NER, PE (RBP), RPEQ, MIEAust,
M.ENG. (STRUCTURAL), B.ENG. (CIVIL)
I'm Moly, a Senior Structural Engineer with over 10 years of experience with a particular focus on residential engineering, leading the structural design team, forensic team, and R&D department.

Over the years, I’ve worked with, trained, and managed graduate and migrant structural engineers and architects, helping them break into the field and get where they deserve to be. I know that theoretical knowledge and skills alone aren’t enough. You need PRACTICAL Knowledge, PRACTICAL Skills and REAL-LIFE Experience to truly succeed and thrive in the field.

As a migrant engineer, I’ve personally faced the challenges of entering the Australian design and construction industry. Later, as the Managing Director of a Melbourne-based structural engineering company, I saw the exact skill gaps that hold people back from securing jobs and excelling in their roles. I know what works, and I know what doesn’t.

That’s why I’m here, to share REAL industry experience with you. I’ve trained and mentored engineers and architects just like you, and I understand how easy it is to feel stuck in a cycle of uncertainty. The truth is, without PRACTICAL technical skills, it’s tough to break in.

At this construction site-visit event, I’ll be sharing the most valuable lessons from my experience in Australian timber construction and design—knowledge and skills that you won’t find in textbooks. This isn’t just theory; this is hands-on, real-life learning, exactly what you need to get ahead and enter the residential construction field in Australia.
